TODD JAMES - YIELD TO TEMPTATION EXHIBITION IN TOKYO
Todd James is a street artist from New York who was creating obscure and un-categorizable work before the term “street art” was even invented. As the movement saw gallery dominance and came back the artist maintained his cultural presence and stayed true to his work. Operating under the graffiti tag REAS, James developed a very iconic aesthetic for his beautiful women and other subjects akin to the Picassos and de Koonings before him, perhaps confusing viewers even further as to what he is trying to say about their beauty. Your latest chance to decipher the message yourself happens in Tokyo in the artist’s first solo exhibition, which explores excess, sexuality, war, piracy, and other American obsessions. PictureBox and Nanzuka Underground bring exclusive access to the artist’s sketches, which will be on display at “Yield to Temptation” until July 1st. Details below.
