WE GOT THE POWER!: WE SURVIVED THE PIT - TRACK 16 GALLERY’S FINAL SHOW IN SANTA MONICA TOMORROW
Track 16 Gallery in Santa Monica has long been one of the more well-thought-out galleries in the greater Los Angeles area that consistently shows hip, contemporary work. As has been the case with many other galleries, however, city-wide improvements to transportation has put the gallery out of its place to make way for the Metro subway line construction. The gallery has been selling off all of its work at low prices to lessen the blow, but unfortunately their upcoming show will likely be their last.
WE GOT THE POWER!: We Survived the Pit is about a hardcore underground movement that spurred itself, and it gives away such a feeling, especially in the gallery’s gorgeous space. The opening is tomorrow at 6pm, and you can find details below as well as an excerpt from the press release:
As a pre-teenager, David Markey began making 8mm and Super-8 films while publishing neighborhood newspapers in Santa Monica in the mid 1970s. In 1979 he met fellow teenager Jordan Schwartz and by 1981 they founded We Got Power!, a fanzine dedicated to the first-generation hardcore punk music community in Los Angeles, and beyond.
