DEFINING CURATION WITH MOMA
MoMA’s new director of research and development has a huge task ahead of her: she will be defining terms as elusive as “curation” for the remainder of the time she holds the position. Design curator and new Museum of Modern Art employee Paola Antonelli arranged a panel in a private salon on Monday night to frame the evolution of a practice that used to be reserved for the elite. As the internet has transformed the landscape of sharing media, even this very act of sharing the story on our blog has become a form of curation. A variety of individuals spoke on the panel, like Tor Erik Hermanson, musician and producer for the most famous pop stars in the world, who spoke about “taste” being a part of curation and how his particular taste reflects those of millions. The panel raises interesting questions about a world post-social media and how that alters our views on the arts.
