BRIAN KELLEY PHOTOGRAPHS NYC DURING HURRICANE SANDY WITH “INTO THE DARKNESS”
While many were fleeing the horrific side of Mother Nature, flexing her muscles on a city that has been more influenced by human innovation than topology itself, adventurous photographers like Brian Kelley saw an opportunity to build an important part of their portfolios. With no people and even less electricity, Kelley’s series “Into the Darkness” is a telling experiment in street photography that calls upon a post-apocalyptic fear within all of us as we move further into this urban age, and he captures this fear well with heavy blacks on blood red backgrounds and scarce lights from cars on empty streets.
