RYUICHI OGINO - KIGEN EXHIBITION IN HONOLULU
Ryuichi Ogino is an artist who rode the wave of urban vinyl toys into the contemporary pop-surrealism gallery space at the turn of the decade, and did it correctly. His works often comment on both American and Japanese culture through use of materials and methods, and draw a fine line between the idealized Westernism of Japanese youth while maintaining a form true to his own experience at the California College of Arts.
The Tokyo-based artist displays a new body of works at his show titled “Kigen,” which means “Origins” in Japanese. The show is currently on display at Honolulu’s Loft in Space until May 16th. Hawaii has been getting some great shows lately; find details below.
